Mexico: Yucatán: Hacienda San José Cholul

Hacienda San José Cholul, formerly the estate of a nobleman who made his fortune exporting sisal at the turn of the 20th century, has been discreetly and tastefully converted to luxury accommodation. Pale blues and terracottas predominate, and the emphasis is on space and privacy. San José Cholul is about 50 mins' drive from Mérida Airport. Chichén Itzá - the most well-known of the Mayan/Toltec sites is an hour beyond, on the road to Cancún.

We recommend you arrange to pick up a hire car in Mérida on arrival for the duration of your stay to explore these various sites. The hacienda can also arrange private escorted tours

There are just 11 rooms and suites which surround an impressive garden courtyard. Much of the original mansion building has been retained, and the ambience reflects the calm of a former era.

Our Comment

This is possibly the most romantic of the haciendas, certainly here you will really feel enveloped by the natural world with bird-filled low forest surrounding the property. The pool, edged by trees, is a delight.
