This secluded Villa Maya lodge is on the shores of tranquil Lake Petén, 45 mins' drive from the majestic Mayan site of Tikal. The hotel is also 10 mins' drive from the town of Flores (the latter part of the journey being a bumpy track). There are 56 bright rooms within octagonal blocks or cabins, each with ceiling fan, private bathroom and small balcony with lake views. Facilities include an attractive swimming pool (with smaller plunge pool), thatched restaurant and a bar overlooking the lake. They want to keep the vibe as peaceful as possible so there is no TV or phone.
Kayaks and mountain bikes can be hired. There are many well-marked tracks to explore and lots of wildlife including monkeys.
