Lapa Rios is a luxury wilderness ecolodge in a private reserve, near Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula. With over 300 species of birds and many mammals and invertebrates it is an excellent area for wildlife with miles of private trails in prime rainforest. The spectacular and rare scarlet macaw is ever present in the surrounding trees.
Lapa Rios has a stunning hillside location above the beaches at Cabo Matapalo and is 45 minutes from the small town of Puerto Jimenez, reached by small aircraft from the capital.
The elegant lodge provides perfect seclusion for honeymooners and discerning travellers with spacious and comfortable accommodation overlooking the Pacific Ocean, innovative cuisine and attentive service.
The main lodge houses the bar, excellent restaurant and viewing platform. Thatched bungalows each have a private deck, patio garden with outdoor shower, private bathroom and a view of the ocean. Some are built between the cliff-top and the sea with up to 180 steps to negotiate.
The main attraction at Lapa Rios is the rainforest and its wildlife. Activities include rainforest treks, horse-riding, kayaking, fishing, surfing and bird-watching trips to see some of the 319 species which inhabit the reserve. Or join the fascinating medicinal plant tour with a local shaman or a full day excursion to the neighbouring Corcovado National Park.
Wildlife that you may see during your stay includes a large variety of birds, 3 species of monkey, coati mundi, 3 toed sloth and various species of lizard and frog.
