A wonderful neo-classical building, right in the thick of things in atmospheric old Havana which bustles with classic old American saloon cars, rickety bicycles and the rhythms of street musicians.
Though only part of the hotel’s original façade remains, it’s easy to imagine the vibrant days of the fifties when it was a popular haunt with writers, artists and well-healed Cubans and Americans. What's more, by modest Cuban standards, it’s surprisingly top-notch with elegant, amply-sized rooms with tiled or marble floors, antique mahogany furniture and mosaic-tiled bathrooms. Some have an unbeatable view of the domed Capitolio building. All in all, our number one choice in the capital.
Our Comment
It was a real treat to return to the sanctuary of the Saratoga, after a full day exploring Havana. Cooling off in the rooftop pool, whilst sipping a refreshing mojito and watching the sun go down over the impressive Havana skyline, was wonderful.
