Bonaire is a tiny, arid Caribbean island with pure coral beaches and excellent diving and snorkelling opportunities. The place is very relaxed and low key, with homely and very friendly hotels. The only town, Kralendijk, is small too, until recently at least there was only one traffic light.
This exclusive resort the Harbour Village is on a shady landscaped peninsula, with its own white sandy beach and 64-slip marina.
As its name suggests, the colonial-style hotel consists of roomy villas and cottages framing courtyards linked by cobbled lanes across pretty gardens, with a spa and marina.
It has spacious rooms in two-bedroom ochre and white villas overlooking the beach, marina or gardens. Facilities include 2 informal restaurants, a state-of-the-art gym and spa, swimming pool and tennis courts. There is a beach club offering a range of water-sports, including scuba diving and tuition, a pool, fitness centre and tennis courts. The whitesand beach is the broadest and most pleasant on the island.
Our Comment
The sole private beach on Bonaire. Feels exclusive - I was there at Easter when the hotel was full, but the beach was peaceful and the bar/restaurant was never crowded.
