Bolivia.
When to go: Like the surrounding high Andes, Lake Titicaca is best visited between May and October.
How to get there: It is possible to fly to the lakeside town of Juliaca from Lima, but to adjust to the altitude it is highly advisable to travel overland instead. The lake lies around 300km from Cusco, 200km from Arequipa and 100km from La Paz, and is easily reached by road from any of them.
Combines well with: all the main attractions of Bolivia and Peru, including
Machu Picchu.
