ESSENTIALS

Climate

January to April it’s hot and the sun is relentless, with some sudden showers. May to July and October to December is cloudier; August and September it’s often cloudy and cool, and a stiff breeze makes the waters choppier.

High and Low seasons reflect demand rather than the best time to go. Many boats are in dry dock in September.

Below are two graphs showing average 24-hour temperature and rainfall for San Cristóbal island in the Galápagos and London for comparison.

Average 24-hour Temperature (in oC)

Average Rainfall (in mm)

Wildlife

In terms of the behaviour of the wildlife, different species have different breeding seasons, and whenever you choose to go, there will be something interesting going on.

Currency

The local currency is US dollar. Current exchange rates are available via Google currency conversion or the OANDA currency converter. It is best to take dollars cash, some of which should be in small denominations, although many cruise boats accept major credit cards and there are ATMs on San Cristóbal and Santa Cruz Islands.

Visas

British citizens can find up-to-date information on the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website. Citizens of other countries should consult their embassy before travel.

Vaccinations

We recommend that you always check with your own travel clinic or health professional before you travel, for advice specific to your requirements. The NHS Fit For Travel website contains for up-to-date health advice and lists the common vaccinations for travellers to The Galápagos Islands.
