Tiny Ecuador sits astride the Equator squeezed between Peru and Colombia. But despite its size, it is the perfect snapshot of everything that is Latin America, from Andean volcanic peaks through upland steppe and the wooded valleys of the Mindo to Ecuador’s Amazonian rainforest.
The coastal plain, with plantations of tropical fruits while there are a couple of quirky hotels - we like El Faro Escandinavo - on the driftwood-strewn, wild Pacific beaches, caressed by warm seas
The Andean capital, Quito, and is an excellent base from which we will send you to visit market towns such as Otavalo and craft villages. We can take you to the countryside from one of a number of traditional colonial haciendas, by road or by horse-riding in Ecuador's uplands. The energetic among you may even opt to climb Cotapaxi volcano, or cycle down it!
One of our favourite trips takes you down a column of snow-drenched mountains - the Avenue of the Volcanoes - which marches south to colonial Cuenca, to the east lies tropical rainforest, impenetrable except by air and canoe – within a couple of hours you can be enjoying jungle life from a comfortable Amazon lodge.
We offer small escorted group tours and tailor-made holidays
