Mexico is a vast country. While many visit on all-inclusive break, there’s much more to Mexico than a beach holiday
Mexico has varied landscapes and climate; varied culture, arts and history; world-famous cuisine; active adventure; lively fiestas; wildlife; local markets; Caribbean and Pacific beaches.
There is accommodation for all budgets and tastes: chic boutique hotels, secluded beach retreats, restored colonial haciendas such as Hacienda Temozón near Mérida and even a hotel – Quinta Real - built around an old bullfighting ring! Transport links are excellent and in some places we can arrange car-hire for you.
Start off in energetic Mexico City, crammed with cultural attractions. To the north is a necklace of Mexico’s loveliest colonial cities – Morelia, Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende. South of the capital, Taxco, Oaxaca (famed for its Day of the Dead festival), Puebla and Campeche are equally charming.
Mexico is rich in pre-Colonial culture the ruined cities of the Mayan civilisation and the Aztecs, notably Teotihuacán, Chichén Itzá and Palenque.
We suggest you take the train through awe-inspiring scenery on the Copper Canyon railway, sea kayak or go whale-watching on the Baja Peninsula.
Educational opportunities include cooking lessons and Spanish tuition.
The beaches are internationally celebrated. The hilly Pacific coast has established resorts such as Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta and secluded, small luxury hotels around pretty Zihuatanejo. The Riviera Maya, south of Cancún on the Caribbean, is a great place to wind down, from low key Tulúm to exclusive hotels around Playa del Carmen such as the luxury Maroma and Esencia.
