This small beachfront hotel is located near the main settlement of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz - one of the Galapagos Islands. This unique volcanic archipelago presents visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with an incredible diversity of wildlife including sea lions, iguanas and boobies.
While most explore the islands on a three, four or seven-night cruise, Finch Bay is an excellent alternative for those preferring a land-based stay or add-on. The hotel organises numerous activities including day cruises, hiking and snorkelling.
Location
Finch Bay is located at Punta Estrada on a small sandy beach, a two-minute boat transfer from Puerto Ayora. The hotel has its own launch, and it is also possible to hail down a public water-taxi that runs until late, for a token sum.
The Galapagos Islands are normally reached by air from mainland Ecuador - 2½ hrs from Quito via Guayaquil. Most flights arrive at Isla Baltra where those embarking on a cruise continue by bus to the dock. For those staying in Puerto Ayora, it takes about an hour to get there: a 10 minute ferry to the island of Santa Cruz Island followed by a 45-minute bus ride.
Things to do
The Galapagos Islands are one of the most unique eco-systems on the planet. Landscapes vary from extensive lava fields, forest and glistening white sand beaches. Its wildlife viewing is second to none, and for experienced divers, the islands offer some of the world's best dive sites.
