There is excellent bird watching in the grounds or you can follow trails leading into the jungle for which guides are available. Full board and local bar is included.
Flights to the capital of Georgetown route via Barbados or Trinidad & Tobago, where a beach-orientated stopover in one direction is possible. The trip from Georgetown to Shanklands by road along the Caribbean coast and boat along the Essequibo River takes about two hours.
There is a network of well-marked trails into the rainforest with opportunities to view flora and fauna with over 200 recorded species of birds. Trips can also be made to waterfalls and the gold mining town of Bartica. At the lodge, there are watersports on the river such as kayaking, sailing, water-skiing and tubing. Other on-site activities include badminton or croquet on the lawn, mini-golf, life-size chess and shuffleboard.
Further afield, combine Shanklands with a visit to Kaieteur and Orinduik Falls or the Rupununi savannah.
