Amazon Lodges in Brazil
If you are after a rainforest experience, where you can absorb the sights and sounds of the jungle, with guided forays on foot along narrow trails or by canoe into the creeks and lagoons, then a few days in Amazonia are right for you. Stay at one of a number of jungle lodges - from basic to luxury - or take an expeditionary cruise down the Amazon or Rio Negro.
How to visit the Amazon and where to stay
Amazon: Amazon Lodge
This well-run eco-lodge floats on a lagoon on the Mamori river, just south of the Amazon and surrounded by pristine rainforest. A fleet of individual canoes are at guests' disposal if you feel like going off for a paddle along the lake's edge.
The most remote and rustic lakeside lodge, on with good wildlife spotting potential
Amazon: Amazon Village (lodge)
A rustic Amazonian eco-lodge reached from Manaus by motorised canoe, a lovely journey lasting from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on season. Accommodation is in thatched wooden bungalows scattered within lush rainforest. Excursions include canoe trips, nocturnal safaris and piranha fishing.
A very rustic lodge close to Manaus with excellent guides and food
Amazon: Anavilhanas Lodge
With a rainforest location in the Anavilhanas archipelago, where over 400 islands pepper the Rio Negro, this lodge offers simple but very comfortable accommodation and a selection of land and waterborne jungle excursions.
Boutique lodge style hotel in pristine forest
Amazon: Cristalino Jungle Lodge
Cristalino is a very comfortable Amazon jungle lodge for serious rainforest and wildlife lovers. You won’t find TV and internet access here: the emphasis is on giving you an authentic rainforest experience. The rooms and cottages are scattered around the landscaped grounds, which is fringed with dense woodland so you can spot monkeys, macaws and morph butterflies from your veranda.
Rewarding wildlife spotting for true rainforest lovers
Amazon: Ecopark
A well-run jungle hotel not far from Manaus this property is a great choice for families, those short of time or seeking a taste of life in the rainforest. It is also a good alternative to staying in the city itself. You'll have a relaxing stay and enjoy really good home cooked food.
Excellent well-run lodge close to Manaus but with real jungle feel
Amazon: Uakari Lodge
The virtually untouched reserve in which Uakari Lodge stands is one of the best places to view Amazon fauna from black caiman to howler monkeys. Locally operated, it has impeccable eco credentials.
Maximise your wildlife viewing at this remote lodge
Beach Hotels and Resorts in Brazil - in and around Rio de Janeiro
Brazilians love the beach, and with good reason. From the remote windswept dunes of the far north through the palm-fringed upmarket resorts and off the beaten track pousadas of the north east and Bahia, through the sophisticated beaches of Rio de Janeiro and the vehicle-free natural paradise of Ilha Grande, on down to the coves and cliffs of the European-style far south, you are spoilt for choice.
