Chalalan Lodge, Madidi rainforest reserve
Access to this Reserve, a little-visited area of remarkable biodiversity (there are more species of flora and fauna than anywhere else on earth), involves a short flight from La Paz to Rurrenabaque in the tropical lowlands, followed by a 5 hour trip by motorised canoe upstream on the Tuichi river to Chalalan Lodge.
This small, friendly lodge (7 double rooms) has been developed by Conservation International in association with the indigenous community of Uchupiamonas.
The area encompasses a wide range of tropical ecosystems - premontane cloudforests, humid lowland rainforest and savannah grasslands.
You're likely to see (or hear) howler monkeys, toucans, macaws, hoatzins and caiman. Guided jungle walks, birdwatching expeditions and canoe trips are offered. | |
