The cattle ranches of the flat pampa surrounding Buenos Aires evoke an Argentina of a bygone age.
Built in 1880, this simple nine-roomed estancia in the small town of San Antonio de Areco is 112km west of the metropolis of Buenos Aires. However, in tradition you step back two generations.
You can go riding, swim in the pool (in the summer months) or get your hands dirty with some ranch work. Here the heritage of the gaucho is strong, and there's a small museum in San Antonio de Areco dedicated to these proud, taciturn horsemen.
Our comment
"A tourist-class option for those seeking a taste of the life of the gaucho without the need to travel far from Buenos Aires." |
