El Tamarindo is an exclusive Pacific coast beach resort on the sun-drenched Costa Alegre. Tucked away amid 2000 acres of tropical rainforest, the 29 luxurious bungalows enjoy exclusive access to 15 kilometres of cliffs and rocky headlands, 3 palm-fringed beaches and a beautifully landscaped championship golf course.
Its secluded, tranquil location makes El Tamarindo, in our opinion, one of Mexico’s most remote-feeling romantic hideaways - ideal for couples or honeymooners seeking unrivalled peace and solitude in a privileged setting.
Location
Situated in the heart of the Costa Alegre on Mexico’s central Pacific coast (best known for the mega-resorts of Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco), El Tamarindo enjoys an exclusive location within a coastal rainforest reserve.
Despite its isolated position, access to El Tamarindo is relatively easy: Manzanillo airport is only 45 minutes away by road and is serviced by Mexico’s leading domestic airlines. The nearest village (12km away) is the 16th century fishing settlement of Barra de Navidad. The seaport of Manzanillo is 1.5 hours drive from the property.
Things to do
The idyllic, tranquil setting of El Tamarindo provides you with the perfect place to relax, unwind and 'do nothing'... alternatively there are 2 clay tennis courts and a wide range of water-sports including snorkelling, sea kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. Boat trips can be arranged for sport fishing and scuba diving. If that all sounds a little too active, why not try out the resort's beach-side spa.
Away from the main beach, other more secluded beaches and coves can easily be explored on foot, or by mountain bike using the extensive series of trails and cobbled roads which wind through the rainforest.
El Tamarindo’s private 18-hole championship golf course was designed by David Fleming. Superbly maintained and offering spectacular panoramic views of the wild Pacific coastline and virgin jungle, this is one of the finest and most scenic courses in the Americas. Golf clubs and buggies can be rented locally and special golfing packages are available upon request. There is a snack bar on the course, serving drinks and food all day.
Try to arrange an early morning tee-off. You’ll not only avoid the heat but will also catch the course at its most beautiful, when the rainforest comes alive. Gentle shadows cast their way across the fairways and a cool mist is often draped over the distant jungle canopy.
"El Tamarindo contains a tremendous nature preserve, with spectacular plant diversity and exciting view corridors that rival the greatest golf courses of the world... Where the course exits the jungle onto three breathtaking ocean front holes, more shots are taken with cameras than golf clubs. The ocean is seen from nine holes with spectacular beaches, and crashing surf."
