Ceiba del Mar Hotel & Spa is situated on a stretch of white sandy beach on the Riviera Maya; it's the only hotel of any note in a well-appointed residential area.
The atmosphere is one of quiet calm, and pampered elegance, just half an hour's drive from the shopping malls in Cancun, and the tourist bustle of Playa del Carmen to the south. The site itself, and its beachfront are fairly small, and the 120 rooms and suites are in eight 3-storey buildings set among closely manicured gardens and man-made rock pools.
Location
The map opposite shows the location of the Ceiba del Mar Hotel on the Mayan Riviera, 30km south of CancĂșn. It's situated just north of the small village of Puerto Morelos, in a residential suburb.
Things to do
In common with a couple of other exclusive properties along the Mayan Riviera on the Yucatan Peninsula, Ceiba del Mar styles itself as a resort where its guests prefer to stay within the immediate area. Mountain bikes, a large fitness centre and tennis courts are at the disposal of guests. If your preference is for more sedentary pleasures, the spa has beauty treatments, several massage rooms, sauna, and steam room. And of course, there's a swimming pool overlooking the ocean.
The impressive Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza are 3 hours' drive away (although at midday in high season you might think you’re in a theme park). The less visited, and newly excavated ruins at Ec-Balaam are well worth a visit, as is the fortified convent in Izamal, shown left.
Our comment
"We believe that Ceiba del Mar is one of the best hotels on the 'Riviera Maya'." |
