Los Roques Islands: an overview

2-5 days as part of a tailor-made holiday

Relax on this sandy coral reef archipelago off the Caribbean coast. Unspoilt islands with guesthouse accommodation, endless swathes of fine white sand, watersports (snorkelling, diving, fishing) and schooner trips available.

Daily from Caracas

The islands can be reached by air from Caracas. The electric blue crystal-clear water, aquamarine lagoons and beaches of dazzling white coral sand make this archipelago a popular destination for winding down. Surrounding the islands are 20km of coral reef with excellent snorkelling and diving: organised diving excursions and PADI courses are available.

There are a several barefoot posadas and guesthouses here, each with a homely and relaxed style, where you can relax in a hammock or sip a cocktail and watch the sunset.

Our Comment

If your key words for a beach holiday include "sun" and "unspoilt paradise" this is the place for you; bring a few books, a broad-brimmed hat and go snorkelling (plenty of gear to rent available) to get the best out of your stay.
Laura Rendell-Dunn, Marketing Executive.

When the locals of Venezuela's Los Roques insulted president Hugo Chávez, they unwittingly turned the archipelago into a hidden paradise, as Richard Eilers of The Observer discovered. Read about his trip in this article written for our online magazine, Papagaio.
