Days of departure from Caracas subject to flight schedules
Daily from Puerto Ordaz
4 days, 3 nights
The ancient sheer-walled tepuys of the Gran Sabana, evocatively known as the ‘Lost World’, dominate the skyline of the National Park at Canaima.
Here, a huddle of chalets faces a pink-sand beach and tannin-black lagoon; but the Angel Falls, which cascade from the top of Auyan Tepuy, are not visible from the encampment. You must either fly or go by river. This water-based expedition is available from May to October.
Itinerary
Arrive Canaima, overnight at Kusary Lodge overlooking the lagoon. Board dugout motorised canoe for a 4 hour journey, crossing Mayupa Lagoon and following the Churun River to Angel Falls. It's a strenous walk to the viewpoint, with magnificent views of the falls close by. After lunch head to Ratoncito for dinner and overnight in hammocks. Return to Canaima and overnight at Parakaupa Lodge. Depart from Canaima airport.
Please note: The rivers are at their highest, and the falls at their most spectacular, in July and August. At other times it may be necessary to disembark to allow canoes to be portaged over rapids. |
