Amazon Holidays in Peru

Jungle lodges, rainforest tours and Amazon cruises

We offer carefully selected jungle lodge expeditions in 2 regions of Peru: Iquitos up river from the main Amazon River in the north of the country, and Manú Biosphere Reserve, Madre de Dios & Tambopata (near Cusco) which are situated on southern tributaries of the Amazon River.

Tambopata / Madre de Dios

There are good and very accessible lodges in the Tambopata region, just a one hour flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado and a boat trip along the river. In places, the jungle rivers have high clay banks, where nutrients attract both showy birds like macaws, and mammals such as tapirs.

  • Posada Amazonas - Perhaps the best Amazonian guides will escort you here.
  • Sandoval - A wonderful lakeside location and good restaurant.
  • Reserva Amazonica - The most luxurious with most privacy, perhaps less wildlife on show that elsewhere.
  • Refugio Amazonas - Constructed in harmony with its isolated jungle setting, combining simplicity with relative comfort.
  • Tambopata Research Centre - From here, vist the world’s largest macaw clay lick.
  • Tambopata Macaw Lick - A jungle expedition with visits to the Refugio Amazonas and Tambopata Research Centre.
  • Manú Wildlife Centre - A 9-hour drive from Cusco takes you to a remote biosphere brimming with wildlife: a must for bird-lovers.

Iquitos Region

Alternatively fly to Iquitos (2hrs from Lima) . Here we have chosen  remote lodges with something special to offer and a jungle expedition, and prefer to avoid places designed to cater for “mass” tourism.

  • Explornapo - An expedition by boat and on foot to an amazing canopy walkway with a night camping out.
  • Muyuna Lodge - A remote lodge with elevated walkways and especially well-respected guides.
  • Pacaya Samiria - A little visited but nonetheless magical jungle experience here.

Amazon River Cruises

If you don't fancy staying at a jungle lodge you can choose an Amazon cruise. We have chosen the ones we think offer the best experience. The vessels vary in their levels of comfort and service, but all offer boat and land-based excursions to visit local villages, explore jungle trails, go pirana fishing and caiman spotting.

  • Aqua and Aria - Two state of the art, contemporary luxury vessels inspired by the riverboat style
  • Eco-Amazonia - An economic option with individual cabins
