Lima 1 night, Arica 1n, La Paz 3n, Puno 1n, Colca 2n, Arequipa 2n, Cusco 2n, Machu Picchu 1n, Cusco 2n, Lima 1n.
Itinerary
Day 1 Depart UK arriving Lima the same evening.
Day 2 Fly to Tacna, cross the border and overnight in Chilean beach resort. Arica.
Day 3 Drive to the high altitude Lauca National Park, where vicuñas graze at the foot of smoking volcanoes, and on into Bolivia and La Paz.
Days 4&5 At leisure in La Paz, with tour of the city and Moon Valley.
Day 6 By road to Lake Titicaca and thence by bus and catamaran to Puno via the Island of the Sun.
Day 7 Depart to the Colca Canyon, 6 hours on a paved road across the Andean altiplano. The road reaches 4,800m before dropping down to the small town of Chivay at the head of the Colca Canyon (3,335m.)
Day 8 Visit the Colca Canyon, stopping at the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint and visit local villages.
Day 9 Drive to Arequipa via pre-Inca terraces, still in use, and the volcanoes of Chachani and El Misti.
Day 10 City tour of pearl-white Arequipa, at the foot of El Misti Volcano, with a visit to the Santa Catalina convent.
Day 11 Fly to Cusco; heart of the Inca Empire. City tour and visit to the Inca ruins in the surrounding area, including the temple-fortress of Sacsayhuamán.
Day 12 Full day excursion to the Sacred Valley with visits to the colonial villages of Pisac and Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo.
Day 13 Train to Machu Picchu and overnight locally.
Day 14 Afternoon return to Cusco.
Day 15 At leisure in Cusco.
Day 16 Fly to Lima.
Day 17 Evening flight to UK arriving day 18, Monday.
