Half-day excursions from Lima
Things to do in Lima
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains lies Lima, the capital of Peru. Its territory encompasses more than 10 thousand years of history, though it is now a bustling metropolis of 8 million inhabitants.
Temples, sanctuaries, and dwellings stand as testimony of the indigenous people, who made this region one of the most important cultural centres of pre-Inca and Inca civilizations.
Day-excursions in Lima
Daily from Lima at 9.30 or 14.30
Most of the colonial old part of Lima was neglected and decaying, but has gradually been renovated.
This fairly intensive city tour helps you see the best bits - Torre Tagle Palace, the Plaza de Armas, with the Palaces of the Archbishop, the Presidential Palace and the Cathedral; Alameda de los Descalzos and catacombs of San Francisco.
Half day Larco Museum Visit
The Larco Museum houses an astonishing private collection of pre-Columbian ceramic pieces. The impressive range of pottery provides an insight into the development of Peruvian culture.
In addition there are displays of textiles, gold and silver work, mummies and erotic pottery.
Caballos de Paso and Pachacamac
Daily from Lima - Full day
The Peruvian Paso, the ‘horse of the Conquistador’, is a unique breed brought to Peru in the 16th century. Its unusual gait makes for an extremely comfortable, smooth ride.
Pachacamac, 23km from Lima, was a large pre-Inca city and ceremonial centre, with temple-pyramids for the worship of the god Pachacamac.
Visit the ruins on horseback and ride around the hills of the LurĂn valley to reach the beach at Playa San Pedro in time for lunch. There follows a ride to Playa Mamacona before returning to the stables. |
