Luxury train to Machu Picchu: We've tried it, and love it. Orient Express have spared no expense to creat this luxurious rail experience from Cusco to Machu Picchu. Gourmet meals and live entertainment enhance a journey of brearthtaking beauty down the Urubamba valley, with a guided tour of the ruins. You can make a day trip or, better, break your journey there and return on the same service the following day.

It departs daily except Sundays.

This has to be one of the most spectacular and luxurious rail experiences in the world. The train, two coaches of which are dining carriages offering a supreme gastronomic experience, is sumptuously kitted out and harks back to the golden age of rail travel.

Transfer from your hotel to board the train at 0900 at Poroy railway station, a scenic 20 minute drive from Cusco, allowing a more leisurely start than other rail services. Arrive at Machu Picchu, Peru's most impressive Inca site, in style: the Hiram Bingham train offers you the opportunity to enjoy this scenic rail journey in conditions of ultimate comfort. There is a spectacular 20-minute bus journey from the railway station in Aguas Calientes up to the ruins.

There is a guided tour of Machu Picchu, in small groups (max 15) to which visitors are allocated according to native language. A full meal service and guide is included.

Cusco’s best hotel is the Monasterio, a stunningly restored seminary.

Our Comment

A real treat - but a deserved one: for most people, Machu Picchu is surely the highlight of any trip to Peru. Pamper yourself!
