Travel from the tangled jungles framing the Iguaçu Falls to icy Andean peaks and the stark beauty of the altiplano, with time to get to know the dynamic cities of Lima, La Paz and Rio.
Day 1 Fly from the UK to Lima, Peru, arriving the same evening.
Day 2 Fly across the Andes mountains to Cusco in the Andean highlands (1hr).
Day 3 Full-day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas including the temple fortress at the Inca village of
Ollantaytambo. Overnight in Urubamba.
Day 4 Travel further down the valley―which narrows to a dramatic gorge―by train to the citadel of Machu Picchu, which sits astride a mountain saddle amid dense semi-tropical foliage. Guided tour of the ruins. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
Day 5 Further opportunity to visit the ruins. Return to Cusco by train.
Day 6 At leisure to explore the Inca capital and its wealth of colonial churches and museums or take an optional excursion outside the city.
Day 7 Full-day coach journey to Puno on Lake Titicaca with stops at highlights en route.
Day 8 Excursion to the reed islands of the Uros indians.
Day 9 By land and lake to La Paz, Bolivian capital at the foot of snow-shrouded Mount Illimani.
Day 10 Tour of the city, a mix of colonial heritage and indigenous life. Excursion to the Valley of the Moon.
Days 11-13 Fly to Buenos Aires (5hrs) with a tour of the elegant Argentine capital included.
Day 14 Fly to Puerto Iguazú on the Argentine side of Iguazú Falls. Spend 2 nights at hilltop Hotel Panoramic, recently refurbished with glorious views over the rainforest.
Day 15 Excursion to the walkways above, beneath and even behind the Falls.
Day 16 Excursion to the Brazilian side of the Falls then fly (2hrs) to Rio de Janeiro
Day 17 Full-day excursion by jeep to the Sugar Loaf Mountain (ascend by cable-car) and Corcovado mountain, mantled in tropical vegetation and topped by the famous statue of Christ.
Day 18 At leisure―take an optional schooner trip or visit the bohemian quarter of Santa Teresa.
