Rainforest eco-lodge
San Juan del Sur
This exclusive eco-lodge lies behind an unspoilt beach on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast.
Its 15 charming locally-resourced wooden bungalows enjoy sea views and have outdoor shower and private terrace.
Décor is simple but tasteful and low-key, with furnishings (shiny wooden floors and ethnic designs) of excellent quality. The bungalows are linked to the main lodge and infinity pool by a suspension bridge crossing a canyon.
The property is a 90 minute drive from Granada. The area is brimming with wildlife, from howler monkeys to giant sea turtles and many species of tropical bird.
There are a variety of guided tours of the conservation project, as well as more energetic activities such as kayaking, mountain biking, fishing and horse riding available at additional cost.
Our comment
"In harmony with the natural surroundings - to the extent that some rooms even have a tree growing through the roof - the lodge succeeds in offering guests creature comforts and rustic luxury. With San José only 45 minutes’ flight away it also combines well with Costa Rica."
