Savannah, Amerindian villages, rivers, penal colony and space centre Daily from Georgetown Duration 13 days, 12 nights Day 1: Fly from the UK to Georgetown, Guyana Day 2: Free day to explore Georgetown or take an optional tour to spectacular Kaieteur Falls, reached by air. Day 3: A morning flight to Rock View Lodge located where the savannah meets the forest-covered foothills of the Pakaraima Mountains. Day 4: Continue to Surama, Amerindian village of the Macushi tribe. Day 5: Dawn walk across the savannah up Surama Mountain.  Have breakfast at a point overlooking the village, spot pearl kite, white-tailed and savannah hawk. Afternoon walk across the savannah and through the rainforest to the Burro Burro River. Day 6: Transfer to the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway.  Afternoon flight to Georgetown. Day 7: Morning Georgetown city tour, mid-afternoon flight to Paramaribo, Suriname (approx two hours). Day 8: Tour of Paramaribo; old Dutch colonial sugar cane plantations and fisheries. Day 9: Journey south to Jodensavanne, see the ruins of the oldest synagogue in the Americas.  Continue to the mineral rich creek waters of Blakawatra. Day 10: Travel by road along the coast to the French Guiana border and to Kourou. City tour of St. Laurent du Maroni and visit to church in Iracoubo. Day 11: Full day excursion to Devil’s Islands by catamaran, the notorious former penal colony, featured in the bestselling book and film, ‘Papillon’. Guided visit of Royal Island (in French only). Day 12: Visit the Kourou Space Centre (in French only, movie in English, possible separate explanations in English). Tour the main installations (three hours), followed by a guided visit of the museum. Transfer to Cayenne for a city tour including Place des Palmites, Place de Grenole and Fort Ceperou. Day 13: Transfer to the airport.
