French Guiana, Guyana & Suriname

The Three Guianas

13 days from £2,947

A journey of discovery through the Guiana Shield: Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana.

A unique insight into how the heritage of three distinct colonial powers has shaped these almost unvisited republics beyond the northern fringes of the Amazon basin.

Natural vegetation habitats range from primary rainforest to savannah and coastal lowlands - a must-visit for birdwatchers; Amerindian villages; the notorious bagne penal colony described in “Papillon”; and Europe's main space centre. Fascinating.

Our Comment

I’ve done variations of this itinerary 4 times in the last two years – and keep discovering new things: harpy eagle (twice) cock-of-the-rock (3 times), black caiman in the Georgetown botanical gardens; the market in Cayenne, the ruins of the cells on the Iles du Salut – the list goes on.
