I’ve done variations of this itinerary 4 times in the last two years – and keep discovering new things: harpy eagle (twice) cock-of-the-rock (3 times), black caiman in the Georgetown botanical gardens; the market in Cayenne, the ruins of the cells on the Iles du Salut – the list goes on.

South America's last frontier | Devil's island - notorious for the former penal colony made famous by the book (and film) Papillon
There is an optional tour of Kaieteur Falls on day 2, highly recommended
