Good value, mid-range, family-friendly Galápagos Islands cruise
Fly from Guayaquil or Quito to San Cristóbal
Sundays, 7 nights
Three compact, identical craft, MVs Letty, Eric and Flamingo, offer comfortable cruising at the top of the tourist class range. There are 10 outside cabins on 3 decks: those on the upper decks have twin lower berths and large picture windows but are smaller than the lower ones and more prone to feel the swell. The ship has a business-like, contemporary décor which is enhanced with the liberal use of polished teak. Meals are taken indoors (all tables with good outside views) – special meals should be requested 31 days before the cruise commences. Our inspectors were especially impressed by the spacious sundeck. There are 9 crew and 2 naturalist guides. Snorkelling equipment and wet suits are available at no extra charge. The $100 Galápagos National Park entrance fee and the INGALA tourist card are included.
The cruises offer comfortable cruising for everyone, including children over 7 years old. But in addition they have specific departures in the school holidays exclusively for families with children, each with a programme of activities dedicated to one of three age ranges: 7-12 years, 12-17 years and 17-21 years. Younger children are entertained with games, parties and special meals, while kids’ size masks, wet suits and flippers let them join in with the fun swimming and snorkelling. The older teenagers and young people’s programmes are more active, with hikes and kayaking. Children from the age of 5 are accepted on these specific family departures. Your family will be sharing these experiences with other families principally from the UK and the USA.
The boats' operator was awarded with Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Award in 2008 for Best in a Marine Environment. Initiatives include installing solar and wind-generated energy and successfully offsetting cabin emissions.
Cruise Itinerary
Recent changes to Galápagos National Park guidelines mean that cruise itineraries now vary greatly from departure to departure. The islands visited on each holiday will be determined by your departure date and the length of the cruise, so we no longer feature detailed itineraries on our Galápagos holiday cruise pages. Our travel consultants can provide you with detailed information about cruise itineraries that apply to your preferred dates, or see our Galapagos FAQ page for more information. Our Comment
The atmosphere is friendly and informal which makes individuals and families feel at ease, and it's also great value for money! The triple cabins are ideal for families, and unusual for cruisers in this category.
