Tailor Made

Ecuador

Machalilla National Park

Daily from Quito/Manta

5 days, 4 nights or 4 days, 3 nights

Fly to Manta, a lively Pacific port, and continue by road to Machalilla National Park via Montecristi; where panama hats are made. You will be accommodated at Mantaraya Lodge, set on a cliff-top with ocean views, surrounded by landscaped gardens. There will be a full day excursion to Isla de la Plata, 24km off the coast. Here, as on the Galápagos Islands, the bird and animal life – which includes colonies of waved albatrosses, frigatebirds, boobies and sea-lions – is not afraid of human proximity. Visit the archaeological museum at Agua Blanca and continue to Los Frailes beach. On the last day there is an excursion to the Ayampe River rainforest. Return flight to Quito from Manta.

The four night itinerary allows an extra day for relaxing or snorkelling at La Playita and Salago beaches.

Our comment

"Between June and October a highlight of a visit is the opportunity to watch the humpback whales, which arrive from Antarctica to breed."
