Pacific coastal rainforest
Most days from San José
Basic lodge
4 days, 3 nights
Fly from San José to Punta Banco or Golfito, in the south-western Pacific lowlands, set in secondary rainforest, on a high ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Accommodation is in private cabins with cold water bathroom facilities en suite, and a panoramic view of the ocean. There is a small outdoor pool (unheated). Generator goes off after 8pm.
270 species of bird have been recorded at Tiskita, including trogons, aracaris, catingas and curassows. Several species of monkey - howler, spider, white-faced, capuchin - have been identified on the property as well as sloths, opossums and agoutis.
There is also an experimental fruit farm, with more than a hundred varieties of tropical fruit, something of an attraction for the birds. There are both guided walks and time to explore on your own with self-guide pamphlets.
Horse-riding is available (at extra cost). Tiskita has its own airstrip, and a wild, deserted beach - an ideal place to get away from it all.
Includes: Accommodation, full board, transfers and return domestic flights. |
