Torres del Paine - W Trek

7 days as part of a tailor-made holiday

At the heart of the Chilean Patagonia, 400km north of Punta Arenas, a granite massif of smooth rock towers and icy pinnacles dominate the landscape in what is one of South America's greatest national parks, Torres del Paine. Milky blue and gem-sharp emerald lakes, swift-flowing rivers, glaciers and wind-scoured steppes have created a unique environment. The area is the natural habitat of over 150 species of birds (flamingos, condors, eagles and ostriches) and 25 species of mammal (including guanacos, armadillos, silver foxes and pumas).

There are 4 nights at the Eco Camp (domes with shared facilities) and 2 in basic refuges.

Our Comment

I loved walking the W trek, you really get to appreciate the scale and scenery of Torres del Paine. Each day offers something different. Starting on the eastern side of the park you are close up to the famous granite peaks of Las Torres, as you walk in front of the massif you pass glacial lakes, native plants and flowers, great birdlife, hanging glaciers and of course have fabulous views of the huge Cuernos (horns) of the central part of the massif.  Each day offers 5-8 hours walking and by staying in the refuges and domes you can enjoy a hot meal and glass of Chilean red to end the day!
