This rewarding 6 day cruise through the fjords of Chile's glorious Aisén region reaches the walls of the magnificent San Rafael Glacier in the northern Patagonian ice field. The ship also calls at traditional Chiloe Island. There's capacity on board for 140 passengers over 5 decks.
Saturdays from Puerto Montt (October to March)
6 days,
This cruise sails to the head of the San Rafael fjord, where the San Rafael glacier meets the sea. You can only get here by boat and it's one of Patagonia's true highlights.
You will have a whole day to appreciate the grandeur of the glacier and explore using smaller Zodiac craft, which glide among the icebergs. Elsewhere on this trip you will be able to swim in hot springs on shore, or go fishing or sightseeing in smaller boats, and visit long-standing isolated settlements.
Finally you will drop anchor at Chiloé Island, where there is a shore visit to the capital Castro with its brightly-painted traditional palafitos (wooden houses on stilts).
The cruise returns to Puerto Montt.
Our Comment
"An excellent-value cruise offering a taste of the wild and pristine beauty of Aisén, a region often referred to as Chile's final frontier. Starting and finishing in Puerto Montt, the cruise perfectly complements a visit to Chile's lake district."
