The Remota hotel overlooks the bay of Ultima Esperanza, and large plate glass windows make the most of the spectacular views. There is an array of excursions on offer both inside and outside the park.
Itinerary
Day 1: It is a 3 hr drive by 4x4 to the town of Puerto Natales for a 3-night stay at the Remota Patagonia. It has 72 spacious rooms with lots of wood and textiles, en suite bathroom (with internal window looking into bedroom) and bay views. Amenities include an indoor leisure complex (steep walk down) with indoor lap pool, sauna and Jacuzzi. There is also a large open sitting area, glass sun lounge, TV room, terrace, restaurant and bar.
Days 2-3: Excursions on offer outside the park include: tour of Puerto Natales; visits to the settlements of Puerto Pratt & Puerto Bories on the Bay of Ultima Esperanza; Milodon Cavern, once the refuge of the prehistoric milodon mammoth; half or full day treks in the Sierra Dorotea mountains that surround Puerto Natales; a drive to and gentle walk around Laguna Sofia and its surrounding forest; a scenic boat trip through the channels and fjords to view Serrano glacier and the glacial ice caps that descend from Mount Balmaceda; and visits to the valleys and foothills of the Sierra Baguales including the option of a 6 hr hike.
Trips within Torres del Paine National Park include: a drive to Sarmiento Lake (guanaco, flamingo, various species of duck, and condor) and Laguna Azul (spectacular views of the granite massif); drive to Lago Nordesnkjöld (short walk, weather permitting), Salto Grande waterfall, Lago Pehoé, Valle Pingo forest and Lago Grey glacier; a full day trek to the base of the towers of Torres del Paine (some steep climbing); and a moderate half day hike though forest and valleys with fantastic scenery.
Day 4: Return to Punta Arenas. |
