Itinerary Day 1 Depart from the UK. Day 2 Arrive Santiago. Day 3 Fly to Calama and drive to San Pedro de Atacama. Half-day excursion to the eroded salt mountains of the Moon Valley. Day 4 Day trip to view the salt pans and lagoons near the orchards of Tocanao village. Day 5 Depart before dawn to catch the furious spouting of the high-altitude El Tatio geysers at daybreak. Continue to the village of Caspana with its pretty 17th century church. Day 6 Drive up over the icy border into Argentina and down to Purmamarca, in the Humahuaca Gorge. Day 7 Explore the gorge, textured with a rainbow of coloured rock strata, visiting Tilcara village and the ruins of Pucara fortress. Continue the descent to Salta. Day 8 At leisure. Day 9 Drive through blood-red canyons to Cafayate, surrounded by vineyards and wineries. Day 10 Return to Salta and fly to Buenos Aires. Days 11&12 City tour of the capital including a visit to the la Boca port area and a tango show. Days 13&14 Fly to Mendoza and discover the attractions of this centre of Argentina’s principal wine producing region. Day 15 Return to Santiago by bus through the beautiful Andean mountain pass.
