Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Your hotel in Santiago is the bright and modern  Eurotel, in the ritzy Providencia district of the  Chilean capital.

Day 2:  Fly to Puerto Montt in the lake district and take a short countryside drive to Puerto Varas, an increasingly chic resort on the shores of lake Llanquihue and within sight of Osorno Volcano, one of many snow-capped cones in the area. Spend 3 nights at Vicki Johnson Guesthouse, a cosy place occupying a huge Victorian wooden family house. Breakfast included.

Day 3: Excursion around the lake to the smart little town of Frutillar, like many in the area founded by 19th century German settlers and with a strong Bavarian influence on its architecture. Breakfast included.

Day 4: At leisure: relax, make a day trip to Chiloé Island, or go white-water rafting. Breakfast included

Day 5:  The highlight of any visit to this enchanting landscape is the Andean crossing to Bariloche in the Argentinean lake district. Travel by boat and by road through one of the few chinks in the towering Andean wall of snow-dipped peaks, passing across sparkling emerald and turquoise lakes. The route passes the impressive Petrohue Falls. In good weather an exhilarating day.  Stay at the central Blue Tree Hotel for 3 nights. Breakfast and lunch included.

Days 6,7:  Free days to explore the rugged countryside: you might visit the panoramic ski resort at Cerro Catedral, stroll through forests of monkey-puzzle and Valdivian beech, or take a boat trip on Lake Nahuel Huapi. Breakfast included.

Day 8:  Fly to Buenos Aires where your hotel is the central Hotel Regis, within walking distance of the historic palaces of Plaza de Mayo, the restaurants of the trendy refurbished Puerto Madero, and antique markets of Bohemian San Telmo. Breakfast included

Day 9: Buenos Aires is the home of the tango and you are invited to an evening show of the exotic dance, with dinner at the Café de los Angelitos. Breakfast and dinner included.

Day 10:  Free to explore the capital. You might like to visit the elegant barrio of Recoleta, and la Boca, the folksy Italian port district. Maybe a boat ride on the channels of the River Plate delta, or a day trip over the river to Uruguay! Breakfast included.

Day 11: Transfer to airport.Breakfast included.
