Caribbean stopovers
The Bahamas comprise hundreds of islands and cays, none of which rises to a height of more than a few metres about sea-level.
Most are uninhabited, but those with facilities for tourists enjoy a location which, at 300km from Miami, provide an excellent choice for a beach wind-down.
A few of the more developed islands such as New Providence, home to the capital, Nassau, are rather Americanised and built up but the smaller islands retain their Caribbean ambience.
