Brazil
Serra Verde train
Daily from Curitiba
4 days, 3 nights
This extraordinary journey will delight railway connoisseurs and lovers of dramatic natural scenery alike.
Following a night in the pleasant southern city of Curitiba, you will embark on a winding track over the bottle-green wooded mountains descending towards the coast: there are numerous tunnels, bridges and dizzying viaducts. This is the largest remaining tract of sub-tropical mata atlântica forest in Brazil – huge ferns and vivid flowers line the tracks; the vegetation becomes gradually lusher with palms and banana plants cultivated from tiny wooden villages.
Spend 2 nights in a lodge close to the pretty riverside town of Morretes, in a conservation area bordering the Marumbi State Park, and spend a day exploring the area with options for trekking in the forest, swimming in natural pools, and cycling. Return to Curitiba following a scenic forest road. | Read more about: South Brazil
