Salvador da Bahia, the capital of the state of Bahía, is Brazil's most colourful and exotic city with flavours of Africa in its food, music and culture. For three centuries Salvador was the centre of a thriving slave trade. Strolling along the atmospheric streets of the eighteenth century Pelhourinho district, you’ll hear the beat of drums or witness the martial art capoeira dance being performed. Salvador is situated on the magnificent Bahia de Todos os Santos. The Atlantic suburbs of the city offer an array of fabulous beaches.
