Space-age capital city
Daily
Half day (3 hours)
BrasÃlia became the Brazilian nation’s capital on 21 April 1960, the city having been designed in the shape of a sprung bow and arrow, signifying future potential.
Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa created a city with ‘harmony and occasion’ to draw new industries and people from the overcrowded coast.
At the time the ultimate in new-town planning, it was built 1600 km from the main population centres, in an area with no communications, and only one natural resource... land.
We offer two separate 3-hour city tours: the main monumental area (crown-of-thorns cathedral, TV Tower, embassies and president’s residence); or cultural buildings (4 museums and the University). |
