Tailor Made
Argentina
Spanish Course in Buenos Aires

Along with Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Buenos Aires is the most cosmopolitan city in South America. There are plenty of museums and galleries to visit as well as the old immigrant district of La Boca with its multi-coloured houses and history of Tango. The central part of town is home to the colonial heartland, government buildings, churches, the chic shopping districts with their Parisian ambience, and the bohemian area, San Telmo, where quaint old houses are interspersed with antique shops, tango bars and expensive restaurants.

Language Programme

  • Maximum number of students per class - 7
  • Average number of students per class - 3
  • Spanish levels offered - For Beginners: 2 levels. Intermediate: 2 levels. Advanced: 2 levels.
  • Teaching Method - Covering all aspects of language learning. Active participation in class is encouraged. Taught in Spanish with a cultural component about life in Argentina.
  • Private instruction available at extra cost.
  • Handling of advanced & superior levels - The teachers are well-educated and can handle more than just standard Spanish studies (literature, art, culture, politics, history, etc.). We especially recommend private instruction since most advanced students often have specific areas they want to work on.
  • Placement test - On the first school day there is an oral and a written test.

School Atmosphere

  • Students' nationality - European, Brazilians, North Americans, Japanese.
  • Age group - Most participants are university students, professionals and independent travellers.
  • Facilities - The school is located very close to the city's shopping district and is right in the historical centre, close to the bohemian "San Telmo" area and one block from the main square "Plaza de Mayo". It is on the third floor of a renovated old style building. There is a roof deck, a meeting room for socializing as well as a salon for videos, tango classes etc.
  • Organised activities - The school organises optional activities after classes on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Weekend trips - Normally an excursion is offered each weekend such as visiting "La Boca" district; "El Tigre" for fishing, sailing, barbecuing, etc.; Tourist resort Mar del Plata. Also excursions further afield to Córdoba, Bariloche; Mendoza and Iguazu Falls.

Homestays and hotels

  • We can organise 3-4 star hotel accommodation for you as an alternative to staying with a family. Please enquire for prices. Budget accommodation can be organised locally.
  •  Airport pick up in Buenos Aires is organised if staying with a family
  • One English speaking student per home (unless otherwise requested), sometimes other European or Argentinian students. Can request to be the only student in the home.
  • Rooms are private unless otherwise requested.
  • Breakfast and dinner provided by the host family.
  • Private bathroom in some homestays, but very few.
  • Extra homestay nights are possible, however it is best to arrive Sunday and depart Saturday from the host family. Anything outside of this time frame is considered extra homestay time.
  • Students can use the family's washing machine if they have one, but must buy their own soap. Launderettes are also available.
Family Home - One of the most important parts of your learning and cultural experience is the homestay. You will receive a key to the outside door and will be able to come and go as you please.  Notify the director of the school if things are not working out and you wish to change families (there is no charge for this).

NOTE: The hosts are Argentine middle class, sometimes a young couple with or without a child, but more often a single person. In large, busy, modern cities, especially Buenos Aires, it may be difficult to experience a great deal of "family interaction".
