The multicoloured canyons of the arid northwest
Daily from Salta
6 days, 5 nights
Begin your visit to this region with a tour of colonial Salta. Next day, there is a dramatic road trip, the ‘safari to the clouds’ which climbs out of Salta’s fertile valley through increasingly arid and vivid cacti-covered mountain landscapes to reach high altitude (4000m) grasslands.
Descend via the salt lakes of Jujuy to overnight at the indian hamlet of Purmamarca at the foot of the ‘mountain of seven colours’ with its palette of golds and russets. Return to Salta via the craft markets of Tilcara, the fortress of Pucará and the town of Humahuaca.
On the fourth day drive to Cachi, via the Calchaquíes Valleys and forested Obispo gorge, and overnight there. Return to Salta via Cafayate. | Read more about: The north-west of Argentina: around Salta
