Offering a unique overland adventure of South America for 2012, this group holiday travels from Peru through the Amazon rainforest to Brazil. Highlights of this 18 day escorted tour of South America include Cusco and Machu Picchu, exploring the jungle and Pantanal wetlands, the Iguazú Falls and Rio.

Holiday Itinerary

Day 1 Fly to Lima, arriving the same evening.
Day 2 Fly to Cusco, acclimatise and wander the cobbled streets and markets.
Day 3 City tour including the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuamán.
Day 4 Full day tour into the Sacred Valley, visit the sites of Pisac and Ollantaytambo.
Day 5 Train to Machu Picchu, guided tour of the citadel.
Day 6 Optional revisit of the site, return to Cusco in the afternoon.
Day 7 Fly to Puerto Maldonado and travel by motorised canoe to your Amazon jungle lodge.
Day 8 Excursions on foot and by boat to explore the jungle.
Day 9 Full day bus journey into Brazil to Rio Branco.
Day 10 Fly to the Pantanal and transfer to your lodge.
Days 11,12 Excursions from your lodge for wildlife and bird sightings.
Days 13,14 Fly to Foz do Iguacu, visit both the Brazilian and Argentinean side of the waterfalls.
Day 15 Fly to Rio.
Day 16 Included excursion up Corcovado Mountain, optional cable car ride to Sugar Loaf.
Day 17 Depart, arriving day 18.

Trip Profile

Transport: 5 flight (longest 4hrs); 3 road journeys (longest 10hrs); 2 train journeys (2 and 3½hrs).
Accommodation: Simple guesthouses and hotels, traditional lodge in the Amazon and Pantanal, all with bathroom.
Meals: Breakfast daily.
Included excursions: Cusco city tour; Sacred Valley of the Incas; Machu Picchu; jungle excursions in the Amazon; excursions in the Pantanal; Iguaçu Falls (Brazilian and Argentinean side); Corcovado Mountain, Rio.
