Holiday itinerary

Day 1 Fly to Lima.
Day 2 Fly to Cusco.
Day 3 Guided tour of Cusco and nearby ruins.
Day 4 By train to Machu Picchu, tour of the ruins and overnight nearby.
Day 5 Optional return to the site, afternoon train to Cusco.
Day 6 Full day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Day 7 Private bus south to Lake Titicaca.
Day 8 Boat trip on the lake to Sun Island, overnight.
Day 9 Continue by boat and road to La Paz.
Days 10-11 Exploring La Paz's colourful markets and museums.
Day 12 Full day bus journey across the stark altiplano to Uyuni.
Days 13, 14 Crossing the Uyuni salt flats and desert to Chile.
Day 15 Continue across the border to San Pedro de Atacama.
Day 16 Explore San Pedro.
Day 17 Fly to Santiago.
Day 18 Depart, arriving UK day 19.

Transport: 2 flights (1 and 2 hrs); 2 train journeys (3.5hrs); 2 boat journeys; 5 scenic road journeys (longest 10 hours, with stops).
Accommodation: Tourist class superior, tourist class and simple hotels in the Uyuni area.
Meals: Breakfast daily, lunch days 9,15; dinner day 4; full board days 8,12-14.
