Climate
The climate of this low-lying country is sub-tropical. Summer is extremely hot and humid, with average temperatures in February reaching 35oC. In winter temperatures are extremely variable and it can be very cold at night. Most precipitation falls between October and April but it can rain at any time of the year.

Festivals and Holidays
Most holidays are related to the Roman Catholic calendar, Carnival in the days of February and March leading up to Ash Wednesday is lively in Asunción, Encarnacion and Ciudad del Este. Public holidays are celebrated on days marking turning points in the nation’s history, such as June 12 - the end of the Chaco wars - and August 15 - the foundation day of Asunción.
