Along with Bolivia, Paraguay is the only landlocked country in Latin America. Its relatively isolated position makes it one of the least visited parts of the region. Being a tranquil and friendly rural backwater, Paraguay combines well for overland travel between Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia. To the east, it borders one of the continent’s greatest natural landmarks - the magnificent Iguazú Falls, reached from Brazil via bustling Ciudad del Este.
Other attractions include: the fascinating Jesuit ruins of Trinidad and Jesús; the relaxed, riverside capital of Asuncíon; the Mennonite communities in the Chaco region; Itaipú – the largest hydroelectric dam in the world; and numerous national parks abundant with wildlife and a haven for birdwatchers. What’s more, Paraguayan footballer Roque Santa Cruz was recently named Best Looking Footballer in the World!
