Colombia is one of the most spectacular and colourful countries in South America. A mix of sea (it has both Caribbean and Pacific coastlines), mountains (the Andes here are at their most dramatic) and jungle.
The magnificence of the landscape is equalled by some of the most beautiful colonial towns on the continent.
Colombia has had a turbulent history and the unstable political situation continues to this day. It is most unfortunate that for the moment the transport by the scenic road network is out-of-bounds to the foreign visitor, although it is still regarded as safe to travel between cities by air.
