Mexico is a vast country stretching south from the United States borderline to the verdant forests of Central America. While many visit on all-inclusive beach break, there’s much more to Mexico than sun, sand and tequila slammers.
In Mexico, there’s something for everyone: varied landscapes and climate; fascinating culture, arts and history; tantalising local cuisine; active adventure; lively fiestas; wildlife; local markets; shimmering beaches - the list goes on.
There a fantastic array of accommodation for all budgets and tastes: chic boutique hotels, secluded beach retreats, charming haciendas such as Hacienda Temazón near Mérida and even a hotel – Quinta Real - built around an old bullfighting ring! Transport links are excellent and in some places we organise car-hire.
Most people arrive in energetic Mexico City, home to over 20 million people and crammed with cultural attractions. To the north are some of Mexico’s loveliest colonial cities – Morelia, Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende among them. South of the capital, Taxco, Oaxaca (famed for its Day of the Dead festival), Puebla and Campeche are equally charming.
Mexico is equally rich in pre-Colonial culture including the ruined cities of the mystical Maya and Aztec civilizations, such as Teotihuacán, Chichén Itzá and Palenque.
Those seeking adventure can take a train through the awe-inspiring scenery of the Copper Canyon, sea kayak or go whale-watching off the arid Baja Peninsula. Educational pursuits include cooking lessons and Spanish tuition.
And then there are its beaches – 10,000 kilometres of glorious coastline. The dramatic Pacific has established resorts such as Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta and secluded, small luxury hotels around pretty Zihuatanejo. The so-called Riviera Maya, south of Cancún on the Caribbean, is a great place to wind down, from low key Tulúm to exclusive hotels around Playa del Carmen. The area has some top notch resorts including Maroma and Esencia.
