Cuba is the largest of all the Caribbean Islands and one of the most fascinating. It has a unique and colourful history, reflected in its charming colonial towns, lovingly nurtured vintage cars and revolutionary murals.
Cuba is anything but bland. Music plays a huge part in daily life, with the rhythms of salsa or jazz liable to erupt in the cobbled streets at any time. Material privations have not muted the friendly Cubans’ joie de vivre - singing and dancing are high on their list of priorities, and they appreciate the quality of their excellent rum and cigars.
Cuba is a treasure trove of places to discover. They include the nostalgic and evocative capital Havana; the beautiful scenery of tobacco-growing Pinar del Rio; historical Santa Clara; the colonial delight that’s Trinidad; cultural Santiago de Cuba; the forests of the Sierra Maestra; and the charming southerly port of Baracoa.
The island is also justifiably admired for its sugary white sand beaches, from the established resorts of Varadero and Guadalavaca to tiny cayes such as Cayo Levisa and Cayo las Brujas.
