Responsible Travel

As our company name implies, we are single-minded about Latin America.  The majority of us have lived, worked, or travelled extensively in this part of the world. We have seen for ourselves how tourism, if well-managed, eco-friendly and sustainable, can and does benefit the destination.

Responsible Travel Award
Journey Latin America has achieved 5-star Responsible Tourism status - the highest possible - with the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO).  We are delighted with this recognition for our commitment to minimising the environmental impact caused by travel, our support for local projects and charities, and our endeavours to ensure tourism has positive and long term benefits in the countries where we work.

Journey Latin America is an associate member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO).  IAATO ensures safe and environmentally sound tourism in Antarctica and in accordance with IATTO compliances, Journey Latin America only offer holidays to Antarctica with companies who are IAATO members.

Responsible holidays
Please visit the Responsible Holidays section and map on this site for Amazon lodges, properties and excursions with interesting ecological and/or community development initiatives.

Charities supported
Journey Latin America currently support four charities on an ongoing basis.  Our consistent commitment helps them to plan for long-term development, as well as meet immediate needs.  Please take a look at the charities we support.  If you would like to get involved and help raise money or awareness for any of these projects please contact us for further information.

Travellers code
Travelling to developing countries can have a great impact on local economies.  At Journey Latin America we aim for our impact to be positive, and to ensure this as much as possible we endorse the Travellers code which helps to remind us how to travel responsibly in fragile communities and eco-systems.

“We have always been impressed that the local guides JLA use have a great passion for conservation and looking after their natural surroundings.” JDN, Guernsey (May, 2009)

"We do not kid ourselves that you can be totally responsible when taking lengthy flights, but on the whole RT was stressed and I do feel the use of local agencies does relay some money to ordinary folk.”  AM, Enfield (February 2009)

"We felt as though the part of our trip with you was as ‘responsible’ as it could be and it is very important for us as customers." JH, Aylesbury (July 2008)
